Double Denim = Double Trouble

Denim, my friends, is back. Before you even say it, yes I know it never went away. Denim in the guise of jeans has been part of our staple wardrobes for far longer than most of us would care to admit. Whether you are a lady who likes her jeans super-slim or are more of a casual 'boyfriend cut' kind of gal, every woman has a couple (of hundred?) pairs of jeans in her wardrobe, at least one of which will make an appearance on a bi-weekly basis. So yes, literally speaking denim has never really gone away, but jeans are now such an irreplaceable part of our wardrobe that many of us cease to really think of them as denim at all.

Dare to Bare

You would need to have been living in another world not to have noticed that the 'it' colour of this season is a dreamy nude hue. Everyone from famous faces (for example Christina Hendricks at the Golden Globes) to fashionistas on the street have been keen to sport this trend and it's impossible to even enter a shop or browse for clothes online without being bombarded with items in this Season's signature shade.

Getting Hitched!

Yep, it's true. I'm getting hitched!

Come August 21st 2010 I will be gliding my way down (or up?!) the aisle. You can follow my progress as  I plan my wedding and help me keep calm during my inevitable 'freakout' sessions!

Everyone in the office has been using this news as an excuse to start looking at wedding sites and cooing over dresses in magazines, although the dress is the one thing I have actually sorted.

Tattoo Much?

One of the most exciting things about fashion is that it has a tendency to take inspiration from anywhere and everywhere! One minute we're all scrabbling to get hold of the perfectly over-sized 70s sunglasses, the next minute everyone's going crazy for harem pants with heels and you can bet within another ten minutes we'll all be claiming that we never actually thought there was anything that wrong with 'double denim' (which, by the way, there totally is).

As I am assuming is the same for every woman out there, there are some fashion trends that I embrace wholeheartedly and others that send me into almost instant denial. This season's apparent penchant for floral prints is, for example, something that I have loved from the very first minute it entered my frilly little fashion focused world. As a young lady who regularly moons over black and white photographs of her grandmother wearing homemade floral prom dresses and wishing desperately that she hadn't donated them to charity long before my birth, this spring's floral trend has filled my heart with joy. It's as if Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta have all been working with me in mind. Thanks guys!

The Brits are Coming...

Whilst Sunday evening was all about Hollywood glamour at the 67th annual Golden Globe awards in Beverly Hills, Tuesday evening saw the stars come out for the 2010 Brit Awards nomination announcement party in London. Although the dresses on show were rather different from those we saw on Sunday (they were generally much shorter for a start!), there were just as many fantastic looks and fashion faux pas.

A New Dress for a New Decade

Earlier this week fashion royalty Zandra Rhodes hosted the glittering launch of 'My Favourite Dress' at London's Fashion and Textiles Museum. This fabulously glossy tome was authored by Gity Monsef, Samantha Erin Safer and Robert de Niet and was originally inspired by the equally fabulous 2003 exhibition of the same name. For this book many designers and well known faces in the fashion world have selected and discussed their all-time favourite dresses – garments which have more often than not been worn time and time again, sometimes to a point where they are no longer decent!

With the sub-zero weather forcing us to wrap up in warm coats, it's easy to feel that the colder temperature makes it difficult to dress in a way that is interesting or individual. Even if we are sporting a fabulous Marc Jacobs double-breasted wool-blend number or a Burberry Meadowcroft pleated trench, January can leave us feeling a little more than frustrated at wearing the same thing every day. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who has, on occasion, simply worn my coat on top of whatever I found lying on my bedroom floor. Right?

But before we decide to hibernate completely until the Spring arrives, why not try beating the winter fashion blues by having a little fun with accessorising?

Toasty Toes in Winter Weather

Although the tinsel may have been taken down it's fair to say that the chilly weather will be with us for a little while yet. If anything, conditions seem to be getting increasingly arctic and our footwear in particular is having to become functional as well as fashionable.
