My final year has started and I am now Vastly approaching the start of my final Project which will take me up to the end of uni. :S
I am looking for a Company/Brand to work along side me as part of my brief for my last project which I shall be starting at the end of November this year. My brief entails me to find a company and work alongside with from design process to manufacturing to the end product/garment. I am to design 250 full garments then choose 5 best designs to take forward to make following the manufacturing process to the end product which will be show cased at London Graduate Fashion Week in July 2010.!!!
I started my final year of uni last week, from day one the realisation that this was it started to sink in!! Every thing has stepped up a notch or two in terms of deadlines expectations! Suddenly in the space of a few weeks ive gone from an inquisitive student to being thrown in at the deep end !
During my summer holidays we got to choose a Pathway to go into on our return, these choices were Collection, Portfolio, Design for Performance or Garment Technology. I took the latter, After doing my work experience at John Lewis and now being more then determined that Buying is my chosen Career Garment Technology is going to be the one that benefits me the most.
I have now returned from London after Working for John Lewis Woman's Wear Buying Department. To sum up my time working in London I think I can say it was the most Amazing experience I've had! Everything about the job, company and people I met was more then what I expected it to be!
During my time at John Lewis I did everything from visiting suppliers, Fit sessions with models, basic Office work, Stock Repleneshing, Creating catologues for new seasons, to Competative Shopping. There was not one thing I didnt enjoy about my work experiance, from day one I was one of the team which made me more and more comfortable during my time there!
My work experience with John Lewis Womens Wear Buying dept Looms before me! :0 I'm currently down in London passing my weekend away with nerves trying to get the better of me.
Monday is my first day and after doing a dummy journey to familiarize myself with my route im now even more nervous! The Headquarters of john Lewis Is located in the old Shell Building on Victoria Street, The hudge architectural shrine flows with importane is almost makes me quiver in my steps at the sight of it!
Now that my work experience has been finalised I can reveal where and when I shall be working. This I am very excited about as I am hoping a job will come out of it in the long run.
My 1st section of work experiance is going to be with John Lewis, I shall be working with the head buyer of womens wear for two weeks in july! :D Seen as my chosen career path is (fingers crossed) Fashion Buying I am extreamly excited about this but also very very nervous!
My final week of my second year is finally approaching and with my Design and Illustration project handed in and marked all I have left is my THS- Entrepreneurial and Business presentation and workbook to complete! It seems so quick but another year down and one left to go and with a long summer ahead I have plenty of time for work experience a little relaxation and maybe some shopping here and there :D
Since I returned from Paris everything has been really full at uni, After starting my Illustration project and also my Theoretical and Historical Studies I have had very little time for much else.
My illustration project has been a real turning point in my degree, this project will be the one that decides on my pathway for my final year of studies. For this project we have had to choose 3 starting points all of which have to be of an interest or inspiration to me. The final hand in is 100 designs back and front, 1x line-up of 8 designs, 1x line-up of 8 illustrated designs, a research folder of illustrations and influential people and then finally a collection of all my research and annotations.
Paris! well what can I say such a beautiful country to be! From start to finish everything about my trip to Paris was breath taking! Having never been there before seeing all the famous sights and exhibitions was truly amazing. I went everywhere from the World famous Louve to see the Mona Lisa to the inspirational Musee' de la Moda ( Historical Couture House ) to having Hot chocolates on the Eiffel Tower over looking the whole of Paris.
So the last few weeks have been crazy for me in terms of uni and due in work, within one week my jacket, bridal and millinery were to be handed in. The last two weeks have been spent with many long nights, lots of pro plus and coffee and shall be something I do not wish to repeat for a long time until I have caught up on much needed sleep.
My jacket was impossible to sew, the material was so thick and slippery my sewing machine went on strike on more then one occasion, not helping me out as uni was not open for use of their industrial machines. I finally got it done but not to my normal standard but this was not physically possible the material we were provided with and my design were one major clash.
With Christmas over and my return to uni slowly approaching deadlines are now hanging heavily over my head. Before we broke up for Christmas I handed in my design/concept folder for my Jacket design project and with the mini extension on the general making and Technical notebook this is now needing to be completed or at least started to a certain degree.
During the next few months at uni I shall be starting Bridal wear, This is something I am looking forward to as it is of particular interest to me as a future career choice. Everything about bridal wear appeals to me from the whole glamorous feel every female goes through when choosing perhaps the most important part of their day to the Making of such beautiful dresses.
