Mixing Seasons

Posted on Tuesday, 31 July 2012. Posted in Trends, Fashion

The changing of the seasons in fashion is a somewhat perplexing experience. Shops begin stocking beautiful spring dresses, skirts and shorts while the country is still in the grip of an icy winter. The reverse takes place mid-summer, as we’re greeted with the arrival of warm and cosy knits whilst planning holidays and trips to the seaside. This surely comes as no problem to the most efficient shopping matriarchs, but I simply cannot bring myself to invest in great fashion when I know I’ll have to wait several weeks to enjoy wearing it. A primitive approach perhaps, but nevertheless it’s the way I (and many of my peers) choose to shop.

So perhaps it’s a blessing in disguise that the weather in the UK has been so utterly crap poor over the past few months. As AW12 starts to hit the high-street and the online boutiques, there is no need to wait to don the latest trends; the weather has been so blindingly awful (apart from the odd week) that clothes designed for winter are far more appropriate than the lightweight garbs usually seen in July.

To that end and whilst admiring some of the new AW12 drops on favourite everyday designer fashion site my-wardrobe.com, I thought I make some suggestions on how you can wear these new season trends with your summer wardrobe – an ideal collaboration to defend against the dreadful British weather!

Love Moschino - Leopard Print Sequin Bomber JacketEquipment - Bright Orange Signature Silk ShirtMIH - Marrakesh Mid Rise Kick Flare JeanCatherine Deane - Exclusive Leigh Maxi Dress

First on my list of ‘new season to wear this season’ desirables is a gorgeous statement bomber jacket from Love Moschino. Sequins may predominantly be associated with the Christmas party season, but in my opinion can be worn throughout the year. Team with your favourite jersey and jeans for weekend coffee dates with friends.

Next up is a trusty new season staple; the vibrant Equipment shirt. Worn with a simple seasonal skirt this shirt lifts an outfit and ensures you radiate style whatever the weather.

Third on my list are a pair of 70s kickflares from MIH. These jeans offer a sophisticated alternative to wearing skinnies all summer long and when teamed with a simple top and statement necklace they epitomise cool summer style. Both metaphorically and literally!

And last but not least, my saviour for all wedding fashion dilemmas. The desire to wear a gorgeous dress at summer weddings can at times conflict with the delightful British weather. Having spent many a wedding shivering under a tiny pashmina, I now consider the practicality of each potential outfit in equal measure to the glamour factor. A dress such as this one from Catherine Deane offers you elegance, glamour and practical luxury all in one. And if that’s not enough, it’s breathtakingly gorgeous to boot!

Marks & Spencer's Limited Collection

Posted on Friday, 13 July 2012. Posted in TV, Outfit Styling, Shopping

Excited to report that all the items featured in my video are now in the Marks & Spencer 50% off sale - http://bit.ly/NhFCSI

Dress number one (http://bit.ly/L9Qtwk) was a birthday present from my wonderful parents, the cardigan is also from M&S (albeit not from their Limited Collection) and the wedge boots are last season from Oasis.

The second dress (http://bit.ly/NnbTdl) was actually my second 'Limited' purchase and I've paired that with some black suede boots, my favourite necklace and a decorative jacket from Sainsburys.

Dress number three (http://bit.ly/N0uPAL) is the most recent addition to my collection and is a replica of the previous black dress in orange. The top I'm wearing over it is from Zara and my necklace is from designer Anton Heunis.

The final dress (http://bit.ly/NmtIsu) was actually bought before any of the others is my favourite printed garb. The cardigan and boots are the same as before and the necklace is from Mimco.

The 'twinkle' jeans (http://bit.ly/N4RrPJ) were also a birthday present from my parents. Both the t-shirt and the cardigan are from Zara.
