The Collection Sale
Sale shopping, two words that normally strike fear into my heart. Crowds of bargain hungry women fully prepared to trample over anyone who gets in their way. Gorgeous clothes hung randomly on racks and frequently strewn across the floor - more akin to a jumble sale than a retail environment. But not so in the Reading branch of French Connection. Not an item out of place, friendly staff and trample free toes, a winning result! This haven from the sale starved crowds that had taken over The Oracle proved to be a wonderful retreat for me to indulge in some genteel browsing and trying on. It did however, result in some damage to my bank account and my husband’s patience.
Ignoring my husband pacing up and down in my peripheral vision; I carefully picked my way through the ‘Collection’ sale. Two items caught my eye; the first was a delicate dusky pink dress with a cowl neck and short capped sleeves. The second item I’d already tried on at full price, albeit in a different colour; the ‘Mimosa’ jacket is covered in sequins, with ¾ length sleeves and a tie at the front.
Originally I’d tried on the Mimosa jacket in a navy blue, but the nude shade seemed the more practical choice as it would complement more of my wardrobe. The dusky pink 'Summer Sizzle' dress was an unusual choice for me; I tend to steer away from pale shades as I worry they’ll wash me out. But this dress had just enough colour to avoid me looking like an apparition.
I tried both the items on and liked them both equally. Noting the increasing rate at which my husband was pacing outside the shop, I made a quick (and somewhat decadent) decision to buy both. That being said, the discount on each item was quite substantial; the Summer Sizzle dress was originally £130 reduced to £32 and the Mimosa jacket was reduced to £62 from £250!
I’m thinking of wearing the dress for lunch with friends on Saturday, as for the jacket, a 40th birthday party on Saturday night couldn’t have come at a better time… any excuse to dress up.
