The Oscars is without question the biggest night in film, with the great and the good being rewarded for their contributions to some truly ground-breaking, life-changing cinema.
However, as all fashion lovers will know, the Oscars is also the most glittering and glamorous of all annual Hollywood events and every year the world's most fabulous actresses spend weeks planning their red carpet outfits, meaning there are always some truly fabulous gowns to drool over on the big night. Here are just a few of the best from this year's awards...

Even though the BAFTAs took place over a week ago now, it would not be right to let such an auspicious occasion pass without having a good look at who wore what on the big night. The BAFTAs are widely understood to be the European equivalent of the Oscars. Given that the Oscars are unquestionably the most glamorous annual celebrity event, it is only natural to assume that the stars would pull out all the stops for their walk down the red carpet.

Known as one of the most brilliant directors of our generation, Tim Burton is famous for producing films that are - amongst other things - a feast for the eyes. With his characteristic quirkiness, Burton's pictures are always visually alluring and rich and so it is hardly surprising that the world premier of his latest eagerly awaited offering - Alice in Wonderland - had stars stepping onto the green (yes, green) carpet wearing the most fabulous of ensembles.

Denim, my friends, is back. Before you even say it, yes I know it never went away. Denim in the guise of jeans has been part of our staple wardrobes for far longer than most of us would care to admit. Whether you are a lady who likes her jeans super-slim or are more of a casual 'boyfriend cut' kind of gal, every woman has a couple (of hundred?) pairs of jeans in her wardrobe, at least one of which will make an appearance on a bi-weekly basis. So yes, literally speaking denim has never really gone away, but jeans are now such an irreplaceable part of our wardrobe that many of us cease to really think of them as denim at all.

Fashion weeks are a usually an opportunity for designers to reveal their collections for the up-coming season; for fashion journalists to get an insight into the latest trends; and for new designers to start making their mark.
This year, however, the fashion weeks showcasing the trends for 2010 have been somewhat overshadowed by two tragedies – the untimely death of fashion icon Alexander McQueen and the tragic earthquake in Haiti.

Compared to the awards-filled month of January there have been notably fewer glittering celebrity bashes so far this month. Having said that, Tuesday evening saw London play host to what is arguably the biggest night of the year in British music - The Brit Awards. Being such a huge event you might presume that the ladies would make an extra special effort in the wardrobe department, but with the exception of a couple of great ensembles (Fearne Cotton, Cat Deeley and Florence Welch) it was more than obvious that this was an evening to award musical ability rather than fashion sense.

New York Fashion Week is usually a time of great excitement, but this year a veil of sadness has fallen over the highly anticipated event as a result of the tragic death of much-loved fashion designer Alexander McQueen. Despite being at the height of his career, McQueen was found dead at his Mayfair apartment on 11th February. The police have confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding McQueen's death and it is now believed that McQueen took his own life. His apparent suicide happened just days after the passing of his beloved mother Joyce, with whom McQueen was extremely close.

You would need to have been living in another world not to have noticed that the 'it' colour of this season is a dreamy nude hue. Everyone from famous faces (for example Christina Hendricks at the Golden Globes) to fashionistas on the street have been keen to sport this trend and it's impossible to even enter a shop or browse for clothes online without being bombarded with items in this Season's signature shade.

Yep, it's true. I'm getting hitched!
Come August 21st 2010 I will be gliding my way down (or up?!) the aisle. You can follow my progress as I plan my wedding and help me keep calm during my inevitable 'freakout' sessions!
Everyone in the office has been using this news as an excuse to start looking at wedding sites and cooing over dresses in magazines, although the dress is the one thing I have actually sorted.
