YOUR FRONT ROW GUIDE TO THE LATEST DESIGNER 'MUST-HAVES'

For all the years that Sex and the City was on television, Carrie and her three amigas delighted female viewers by wearing ensembles that we would never even think up, let alone leave the house in.

So when SATC left our screens there was a certain sartorial hole in our viewing schedules, which has thankfully been at least partly filled by the SATC films. True they may not have received fantastic reviews from critics, but there is no denying that the fashion on display in both films deserves 10/10.

The Eurovision Song Contest was first conceived as a fun and exciting way in which different countries around Europe could showcase their culture and present to the world the best they have to offer in terms of musical talent. Of course this is not exactly what has happened, as the musical delights entered into the contest seem to fall specifically under a very particular genre of Euro-pop actually created by the contest, with most entrants singing in English (or French, in the case of this year's Icelandic entry).

There seems to be a rather unfortunate misconception in the fashion world that whilst we Brits are excellent at pulling off that cool London look, we are not particularly inspiring in the glamour stakes. Both the Oscars and Cannes prompt famous faces dress to the nines, whereas British award ceremonies tend to be graced by questionable delights such as those recently witnessed at the soap awards.

I tend to be one of those ladies that decides almost immediately whether or not a trend is for her and once I have made up my mind there is just no budging me. Super short shorts, for example, were instants no-nos (why on earth would I go to extra special lengths to show off these pins?!), whereas with floral prints and maxi dresses appealed it was love at first sight.

Every year the chic location of the French Riviera inspires guests at the annual Cannes Film Festival to dress up to the nines. When heading down the red carpet in the South of France, glamour and elegance are the word of the day and the famous faces this year did not disappoint.

One of the most beautiful gowns of the night was the midnight blue Gucci gown worn by Camilla Belle. The long length and muted colour ensured the dress was sufficiently classy, but the split kept it sexy whilst the sequined asymmetrical strap added a modern edge. Like Camilla Belle, Aishwarya Rai also opted for a Gucci dress, this time going for a beautiful magenta pleated gown with a particularly delightful gathered neckline.

Whereas the red carpet of the Met Ball tends to be graced with some of the most beautiful dresses you are ever likely to see, for some unknown reason the annual British Soap Awards always seems to be a showcase for all that is ill-fitting, ill-advised, or just plain garish.

This year's Soap Awards was, predictably, no exception, with the stars turning out in some of the most hideous red carpet ensembles we have seen in a long time.

Even though the annual Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala 2010 took place just over a week ago now, I still have not been able to stop day dreaming about the breathtakingly beautiful parade of gowns that made its way down the red carpet. I recently picked out my top three dresses of the night for you to drool over and now you are over the shock, I'll present you with the final seven of my top ten...

The annual Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala is widely accepted as being the best party of the year and always inspires its guests to pull out all the stops. This, my friends, is not an occasion for your trusty LBD or the ball gown you wore to a black tie event three years ago. This is an occasion for glamour, elegance and style by the bucket load and it is the perfect time to show your quirky side.
