Greek mythology is the inspiration behind the up-and-coming Katie Rowland's latest jewellery range.
With celebrity fans including Lady Gaga, Cheryl Cole and Daisy Lowe, Manchester-born Katie has already achieved high acclaim for her luxury pieces, featuring gold, silver and precious stones.
The 31-year-old was crowned UK New Designer of the Year at last year's UK Jewellery Awards and chosen to exhibit her autumn/winter 2012 collection at London Fashion Week. Katie says her jewellery is "for women who know what they want and know how to get it" and uses powerful female characters from history and myth to inspire her designs.
She implemented the story behind the enchantress Circe, a minor goddess of magic in Greek mythology, in her latest work. Circe was a flame-headed seductress, renowned for turning those who spurned her affections into the animals she felt they deserved to be.£ London-based Katie has taken the cat-like claws from Circe's beasts and fused the sharp edges with precious stones. Circe poisoned her victims to whisk them off into a hallucinatory world, so Katie used the smoky colours of the enchantress' lethal potion alongside a warm palette of yellow and gold.
